ICKWELL CHAMPIONS OF HUNTs COUNTY LEAGUE DIVISION 1
Victory over Dean gives Ickwell the title
Ickwell 1 travelled to Dean to play their last game of the season in the Huntingdonshire League needing just a few points to clinch the title.
After winning the toss and electing to bat all the top Ickwell batsmen made runs with the top scorers being Harry Webb (49-run out!), Jay Szwajbak (47) and Mammoud Khan (44). Their final total of 272 all out seemed to demoralise the opposition who found runs difficult to come by and had only reached 70 for 4 by the half way stage.
Then the last six wickets fell rapidly for only eleven runs to give Ickwell a handsome victory by 152 runs. Shabz Hussain finished with the remarkable figures of 3 overs, 2 maidens, 1 run and four wickets.
This win saw Ickwell emerge as clear champions of Division 1 in their first season in this league. Surprisingly Huntingdon & District, the leaders for much of the season, lost their last game against bottom of the table Burghley Park.
Ickwell's performance was a great effort, particularly in the last few weeks as they have fought hard under the inspired leadership of Shabz Hussain to reach the top spot!
